I completed 500 hours of clinical rotations at Yuma Regional Medical Center. I participated in medical nutrition therapy in order to accurately diagnosed and develop an intervention/monitoring/evaluation plan for a wide range of patients including wound healing, cardiovascular disease, diabetes management and education, gastrointestinal disorders, and malnutrition. I also gained proficiency in different types of nutrition support both for patients who were critically ill and non. Staff Relief: ICU.

Case Study

This past semester I worked on project focused on brainstem strokes and created a case study presentation regarding a patient who was diagnosed with an acute brain stem stroke. This presentation describes the nutrition care process for the patient and depicts how the clinical dietetic team was an integral part of the healthcare team in providing care for the patient.

This is a clinical resource binder that houses important/helpful sources for medical nutrition therapy recommendations and guidelines from articles and textbooks, as well as helpful materials for deeper understanding of clinical students and respective nutrition recommendations.

Nutrition Support Reference Sheet

This was a documented I developed during my clinical rotations in Spring 2023 at Yuma Regional Medical Center. I included notes I took based on feedback/knowledge provided by the Clinical Nutrition Team to help better understand nutrition support in the clinical setting. I also included different case studies for tube feeding, PPN, TPN, and TPN with lipids that were helpful for remembering how to write the recommendations.

Electronic Nutrition Care Process Terminology (eNCPT)

The eNCPT contains a narrative describing the Nutrition Care Process and is broken down by each Nutrition Care Process step. It is especially helpful for writing pertinent, strong nutrition diagnoses with supporting evidence from the 3 domains: intake, clinical, and behavioral-environmental.

Nutrition Care Manual

The Nutrition Care Manual is an online resource from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that provides users with access to the Nutrition Care Process for different conditions and life stages, diet manual, and multi-lingual nutrition-focused client/patient education.

The Essential Pocket Guide for Clinical Nutrition

A very hand, pocket-sized reference handbook with evidence based recommendations on nutrition assessment, nutrition support, and nutrition considerations for specific diseases. It also includes a section on food-medication interactions, guidelines to evaluating findings of the nutrition-focused physical exam, and laboratory assessment,

Sodexo Dietetic Internship - Clinical Resource Guide

This pocket handbook was most recently published in 2022 by Sodexo for use by  clinicians and dietetic interns. It covers a wide variety of important topics including information regarding the nutrition assessment for anthropometrics, physical findings, and estimated nutrient requirements. There is also a section on different biochemical tests and the implications of their findings. There is a section on different types of enteral and parenteral nutrition. Although not Sodexo Dietetic Interns, it was provided to us by the clinical nutrition team and was a helpful resource!

Medical Nutrition Therapy Study Guide

This was written by Bailey DeBarmore in 2021. It is a great comprehensive resource describing essential elements of the nutrition care process (including estimated needs, MNT goals, and additional resources/references). It is helpful for gaining an overview of the different nutrition recommendations for a variety of disease/life states and could be effectively used by both a dietetic intern and person studying for the RDN exam.
